THE RABBIT’S ANALYSIS

WHAT I THINK THIS BOOK IS ABOUT:

Well, after I have read this book, I think that this book is trying to demonstrate the story of the Aboriginals and European settlers and I think that it portrays this story but instead of using the normal subjects of the Aboriginals and White Settlers, they have used animals of rabbits representing the European Settlers and Kangeroo’s representing the Aboriginal. This book is conveys the ways in which the rabbits being the Europeans came from a distant land, by ship and concered the land by making things for example a house, where they lived and this was not familiar with the othe. The cover page of the rabbits

BRIEFCASE 19- READING AND UNDERSTANDING THE RABBITS

1. In groups (or as a class) read the Rabbits

I have read the rabbits and I have discussed the meaning it carries

2. Discuss what the meaning of the book isThe meaning of the book is to portray the Europeans, which is represented by a (rabbit) taking over and spreading wide along the land, and the Aboriginals represented by the Kangeroo. This book represents the ways in which through history the Rabbits came from a distant land and saw that there were others living in the land and how they came and took over what didn’t belong to them.

- What is the message-

The message that this simple but effective book has is that the people should not discriminate others for what they believe in and not to rudely steal things that people already own, but especially not to think that other races are not as good as yours but everyone is equal and not some people’s being superior to others which in this book, that is what is happening by the rabbits not caring for what the kangeroo’s believe in.

3. Make a list of some visual techniques that you think help create these meanings.Eg: Colour, participants, settingThe colour techniques are:-Sepia, participants, setting, black and white and lines or text.

- Also salience is used.

Some of the visual techniques 4. Discuss what you think colours represent in this book. The colours in this book plays a important role in pulling out the message in each page of the book. The colours portray the mood. It also shows contributes the text. For example, on DPS 9, the black part at the bottom represents defeat and with the flags at the top of the page where the gray sky is, it represents a land taken over and in this case by the rabbits representing the Europeans.

My Analysis on Double Page Spread 9 Briefcase 19.

REPRESENTATION:

The participants on this page are the Rabbits and the Kangeroo’s, where they are stationed at the bottom of the page with two ugly rabbit and 4  chained up kangeroos. The flags at the top of the page and belong to the rabbits and it is representing victory and defeat to the kangeroo’s, the flags are placed at the top as a sign of it is their land now and now they are the inhabitants of the land. The small box with the one rabbit and 4 kangeroos. This one picture shows the ways the Aboriginals had to declare defeat and this picture shows exactly that with the kangeroos lifting up the enemey’s flag which often declares that they have lost. The rabbit in the picture represents the white man (European Settlers) with the power that they took from the Aboriginals. The Rabbit in this picture does not look like a normal cute rabbit, but instead this rabbit has sharp edges and a small curly tail and his head it thin. The edges represents aggresion and power that they possess. The black shade with the spirals represent a land that was one theirs, and I am refering to the Aboriginals. In general, when I saw this DPS 9, I think that the black part with the spirals represent the Aboriginals and the flags represents the White Man.

TECHNIQUES USED IN THE BOOK:- Vectors and Reading Paths:

When you open the DPS 9 page, you should see the top with the flags with the rabbit watching over and then you see 2 vector lines going down the page and as it goes down you can see the dead kangeroos along the page, and in ends up in the small square box with the one rabbit and 4 kangeroos. The reading path would be starting at the top and scrools down and around the vector lines.

MOTIVE: REPEATED IDEA:

The repeated idea in this page is that the kangeroos lost the battle and the rabbits won the battle and his is showed with the rising of the enemys flag. This is the repeated idea in the whole book. And another is one that the invasion of the rabbits and the destruction that they layed on the kangeroos.

BRIEFCASE 22- INTERACTIVE MEANINGS DPS 9 ” We Lost the Fights”

DEMAND- In this DPS 9 there is really no demand really given by the rabbits and kangeroos as they are not demanding for a response.

OFFER- Within this page there are a few offers, mainly the 4 Kangeroos and 4 Rabbits. They are not looking at the viwer/ reader, therefore they are offers.

SOCIAL DISTANCE: The social distance with in this page is a far sense with the background in the view and the sky in the view as well. It does not look like its medium or close.

ANGLE: This DPS is a low angle shot, with the whole page looking from bottom to top. Also with the vector lines, it makes it quite obviously a low angle shot with the main thing happening at the top.

This DPS has a very low modality with lighter and not real colours used. It is much more of a sepia colour which were used back in the old days, which was often used to show war pictures and this is an example of sepia as it reveals that a tradegy has occured with the dead kangeroos in the picture. It also creats a memory within the page by the use of colours and the pictures within the page. The sepia creats a sense of memory. The sepia colour also is relevant to the text as it is not a good thing and these dark colours like black are used to represent bad things, for example evil is represented by a black or red, so the black in this picture represents that they the Kangeroos lost and most of them are dead due to the fights.  The background can be described by dull and most forgetfull as there are dead kangeroos in it due to the fights.

BRIEFCASE 23- COMPISITIONAL MEANINGS

Framing: Within the DPS 9 there are no framing segments given, but within the small picture at the bottom, there is a small frame within it, representing or symbolising memories and a regret that they have lost their land and the battle
