What influences your values about issues relating to your life?
Things/ People that influence my values about issues relating to my life include
  • My family
  • My Religion
  • My friends
  • My Inspirations and people I admire
  • My culture
  • My cousins and close relatives
All these people have an effect on me and thus influence my values about issues relating to my life.
Do you ever compare images/values presented by the media to those of the bible? If so why? If not why not?
No, I dont compare images and values presented by the media to those of the bible because when i watch the news I look at it closely and cannot justify how or why it is similar to the iamges and values presented in the bible, thus saying that the media and the church should not mix with each other.
Has this project challenged you to examine your values? Why / Why not
Yes, I believe that this project has challenged me to examine my values because by watching medai watch and church it shows me that i could change or look at my values closely

Journal Entry 4 (Reflective Journal)

How do you feel the media portrays social justice issues?

I feel that the media portrays social justice issues as problems that we need to solve and they portray these issues through things like Televisions, Magazines, Newspapers, Internet and things like Interviews which are the not so common ones. In general, I feel as though the media have a big say on social justice issues and like most people see it as a set back to the world. The church also has a major say on social justice issues and they see it as a very bad thing and people involved in social justice issues need to be helped to solve it. n

Has it been difficult to find articles on social justice issues why/why not?
I believe that it has been difficult to find articles on Social Justice issues because most of the ones about Social Justice issues are false or either not backed up by evidence which is what I need. It is also hard to find because I am afraid that other people might find the same one as me so I have to keep trying hard to find one that I am sure that no body would find or use.

Do you think that the media operates from a moral framework? Give evidence by using your research.
In my eyes, I say that the media does not operate from a moral framework because they more often than not say things which are in-moral about a story or topic and thus they would not operate in a moral framework.

Journal Entry 3

 1. Open and read the “How to write a critique” document in the resources menu. Describe what is a critique.
A critique is a way you can identify critical things to express in an article by holding back to describe rater than analyse. You can say it is a way of constructively criticising the wrongs of something.
According to the handout ‘How to write a critique’ it is identifying critical things to say about an article and resisting the temptation to describe rather than analyse. Let’s look at the difference
2. Outline the FOUR stages in a critique.
A critique normally involves FOUR main stages, but if their is a conclusion which is optional there will be 5. But the Four main stages to a critique are:
- An Introduction, which names the issue discussed, it also states why is it considered important and it also Signals your approach and your evaluation of the article.
- There is also a Summary, this is simply a summary of the article, this is written in your own words and gives the reader a clear idea of the most important information of the article.
- There should also be an Analysis, this would identify the strengths and weaknesses of the publication, you could also talk about the importance of the article, expert opinions and things like the consistency of the publication.
- The last stage to a critique is an Evaluation, this normally weighs the positive and negative aspects to decide the value you put on the article.
- There is also a conclusion, but the conclusion is an optional stage in the writing of a critique.
3. Can a critique be positive? Discuss.
I think that a critique could be positive because when I read the “How to write a critique” document, it said that under Stage 4 of the critique which is the evaluation, it clearly states that it is a weigh up of the positive and negative aspects to decide the value you put on the article.
By saying this, it is clearly states that a critique could be either positive or negative by pulling up on the ways that it is portrayed.
4. Critique the accuracy of the following articles:
The first one is titled “The Beijing Games Are they are Trap”. This article was created by “In the News” from the Orion News Network. This article was about a contribution of 10 billion dollars which has gone in to the project to make the perfect venue for the 2008 Beijing Games, and this article takes about the Chinese digging holes in the ground for the Americans to fall into, thus a trap.
This video is about a total of 10 billion dollars has been put in to make a venue for the 2008 Beijing Games and how the Chinese are digging holes and putting branches into the ground for the Americans to fall straight into.
It was not so smart to put out a report on this topic and even further more stupid to make this report without any evidence possible. It is not true and people who are watching this broadcast can turn over to another one and see that the information that they are presenting is not true. On the other hand, it could persuade people who are watching the broadcasts and they might actually believe that this report may be true.
This story was a good one to watch and good one to critique as it was funny and entertaining, but seriously the information was not true, but is was funny to watch.

The Second story is titled “2 Year Old Donkey Called Up to Pro Donkey Basketball League”
This article is titled “2 Year Old Donkey Called Up to Pro Donkey Basketball League”. This article was created by “Orion News Network”. The issue is pretty much about Donkey Basketball, but more specifically, it is about a 2 year old Donkey who has been called up to play Pro Donkey Basketball League.
This video is about A 2 year old Donkey named Scraps who playing Donkey Basketball but playing up a grade. This donkey looks to be very talented which is why he is chosen for the Pro Donkey League after only about 5 fundraiser matches.
This is a very interesting video in my opinion. This would be a true video as they have used comprehensive video footage of Donkey Basketball and they have used statistics about Scraps. The reporter has done a good job of making people interested by using techniques which attract the viewers.
It was good that the reporter continues to back up what he says by using things like videos and stats and has co reporters following up the information given by the 1st reporter. Although, the reporter was not fully true in what he said by telling some lies and therefore it might have lost the trust of the viewer.
Because of the stats and video footage used by the reporter, I would dare say that this story is true and even though the reporter may have lied about some issues, there was enough proof to prove this story is true and not false.

Find TWO current media topics which you consider to be social justice or moral issues. Then using your eduBlog Page, under the category CST/IST – Project 5, answer the following questions for each media topic.

1. Name the issue?

2. Describe one media account of this issue?

3. Where did you get this media account from?

4. Is this media account correct or reliable? Why?

5. Where else might you be able to find more information about this issue?
ANSWERS:

ISSUE 1 which is Olympics Games Drug Scandles.

1. The Issue that I have chosen is the Olympic Games Drug Smuggling Scandle to cheat to win in the Games.

2. One Media account for this issue is the television show News and Today Tonight and Current Afair, and in these shows they discuss how people will cheat in the games by taking things like steriods which are not allowed in the games. The media have even shown videos of athletes asking to access and take enhance perfomring drugs.

3. Once again, I have accounted this media account from the news and Current Afair shows like Today Tonight.

4. I have found that this media account is relaiable and correct because after a lot of research, I have found that all shows on different networks and the internet all have the same information and media watch have not said that the information presented about this topic is incorrect and false. And also, videos have been provided to show and prove the information said in the articles.

5. I could and might be able to find more information about this topic on like the news sights, but also the official 2008 Beijing Olympic Games website.

1. Describe TWO things that you have learnt during this lesson.
Well a couple of things that I have learnt in the duration of this lesson was that The Media is definitionaly not always going to be 100% true and provide the accurate stories and they will change it up a bit making stories a whole lot different than the actual truth.
Another thing that I have learnt in this lesson is about the television show media watch and how they work and how they aim to pick out all the mistakes and lies that the media throw out to the world.

2. Identify areas you want to concentrate on during this project that you need a greater improvement from the last project.
Well one thing that I really need to work on is my time managment. I feel that I need to be more organized and always aim to do my work earlier so that I can hand it in on time and also get better marks in that area of the project which is always handy.
Another thing would have to be is to get more into the project and to throughouly understand it so that I can get better marks at the end of the day.
3. Discuss Two ways in which your group could resolve any disputes during this process.
Well the group contract is always there and can be reflected upon any time by looking through it and seeing things like rules and consequences ie.
We could also hold a group meeting and discuss all the issues which need to be discussed, if their are any disputes or anything.
